Real Madrid will kick-off their pre-season with a friendly against rivals Barcelona at the Allegiant Stadium on Saturday. Barcelona are heading into the match on the back of a 6-0 win at Inter Miami last Tuesday, while the Los Blancos haven’t been in action since the 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final at the end of May. Real Madrid had a brilliant season last time around, winning the La Liga title with a 13-point lead over second-placed-Barca, and also clinched the Continental title. Blaugrana, on the other hand, had a rare trophyless season last term.

Barcelona put six goals past Inter Miami courtesy of strikes from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raphinha, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Memphis Depay and Ousmane Dembele. Xavi’s side will also take on NY Red Bulls and Pumas UNAM before beginning their new La Liga season at home against Rayo Vallecano on August 13. Barca have been busy in the transfer market, signing the likes of Raphinha, Andreas christensen and Franck Kessie on free transfers, while talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski arrived on a big-money move from Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, after the game against Barca, will take on Club America and Juventus before facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA super Cup final on August 10. And then, Carlo Ancelotti’s side will begin their La Liga title-defence at Almeira on August 14. La Blancos were simply brilliant last season, getting the better of PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City in the knockout rounds of the continental competition before edging past the Reds in the title-decider to win a record 14th Champions League trophy. The Vikings have bolstered their squad by bringing in Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger.

Barcelona’s biggest signing of the summer, Lewandowski could make his debut off the bench on Saturday. Therefore centre-forward Aubameyang is likely to retain his spot in the starting eleven with Raphinha and Ferran Torres in support. Captain Sergio Busquets could sit in front of the back-four with Pedri and Gavi deployed in a slightly advanced role in the midfield. As for Real Madrid, versatile defender David Alaba, who played a key role as a centre-back in the last season, could be shifted to the left-back position in order to accomodate, Rudiger in the heart of the defence alongside Eder Militao. Meanwhile this fixture could be the beginning of a new rivalry in club football featuring two of the best centre-forwards in world football right now, Karim Benzema and Lewandowski.
