Barnsley will host Nottingham Forest in a pre-season friendly at Oakwell on Saturday evening. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw against Crewe Alexandra last Saturday, while Nottingham Forest secured a narrow 1-0 win at Burton in their recent outing. Barnsley didn’t have a great 2021-22 season, finishing rock bottom in the Championship table and thereby got relegated to the Football League One. Nottingham, on the other hand, secured fourth spot in the Championship standings, before getting the better of Sheffield United and Huddersfield to earn promotion to the English Premier League.

Against Burton, the newly promoted Premier League outfit secured the win courtesy of Steve Cook’s second half header. Steve Cooper’s side began the pre-season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Championship side Coventry City. The Reds will also take on Hertha, Union Berlin, Notts County and Valencia before beginning their first Premier League season in 23 years with a trip to Newcastle United on August 6. Barnsley, on the other hand, after the Nottingham game, will play Harrogate Town and Sheffield United before their League One opener against Plymouth Argyle.
