Australia will take on Uzbekistan in their final Group B fixture of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 at Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday. Socceroos are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Syria on Thursday, taking their points tally to six from two games and thereby ensuring a place in the last-16 stage of the tournament. White Wolves, meanwhile, thrashed India 3-0 last time out, moved to four points from two league games, and are currently sitting at the second spot in the table, three points clear of third-placed Syria, who will be up against the Blue Tigers in the other Group B fixture of the day.

Australia had to dig deep on matchday two against Syria, recording just a solitary attempt on goal in the entire 90 minutes of play. Jackson Irvine’s effort on the stroke of the hour-mark helped the Socceroos secure all three points against the Eagles of Qasioun and book their place in the round of 16. The result extended their winning run to six games in all competitions, with an overall scoreline of 15-0. Graham Arnold’s men need just a point on Tuesday to finish on top of their group for the first time since 2011. Meanwhile, Socceroos are unbeaten in their four previous meetings versus Uzbekistan, not conceding a single goal in each of those encounters.

Uzbekistan, on the other hand, produced a clinical performance against India on matchday two, scoring three goals in the first half, thanks to efforts from Abbosbek Fayzullaev, Igor Sergeev and Sherzod Nasrullaev. Though Blue Tigers created couple of decent chances at the other end, Uzbek goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov was up to the task and secured a third successive clean sheet in all competitions. Moreover, Turanians are now unbeaten in their last nine outings across all competitions, recording six wins in the process. Srecko Katanac’s side will be bidding to secure their first victory against the Socceroos which would earn them a spot in the knockout stage as group winners for the first time since 2011.
