Atletico Madrid will host Celta vigo in a La Liga fixture at Metropolitano stadium on Saturday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory against FC Porto in a Champions League match on Wednesday, while Celta Vigo thrashed Cadiz 3-0 in a La Liga fixture three days earlier. Atletico are currently occupying seventh position in the standings with seven points from four games, while the visitors are sitting one place below them, with the same number of points, but separated by goal difference.

Atletico have made a mixed start to their 2022-23 La Liga campaign, registering two wins, one draw and a defeat to pocket seven points, five adrift of the leaders Real Madrid. In their last game against Porto, the match went goalless into the stoppage time before Atletico defender Mario Hermoso broke the deadlock in the 91st minute. Porto hit back, but Antoine Griezmann scored the winner, 11 minutes into stoppage time.  Prior to that, Diego Simeone’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad in a La Liga fixture.

Celta Vigo, on the other hand, put three goals past a struggling Cadiz without reply last Saturday. Iago Aspas found the back of the net on either side of Oscar Rodriguez’ goal at Balaidos. Prior to that, the Sky Blues had secured a narrow 1-0 win over Girona courtesy of Aspas’ 49th-minute goal. Celta have finished 11th in their previous two seasons at this level.
