Aston Villa will be looking to get back to winning ways when they play host to Burnley in a Premier League fixture at Villa Park on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-2 defeat away to Manchester United in the mid-week, while the Clarets were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool on Boxing Day. Despite the defeat, the Lions are sitting at the third spot in the English top flight standings, having taken 39 points from 19 games, just three adrift of the summit, while the visitors are languishing at the 19th position, with just 11 points to their name, five away from safety.
Unai Emery: “We are going to enjoy the match, playing with our supporters at home.” 🤝

Aston Villa saw their ten game unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end at Old Trafford on Wednesday despite going into the break with a 2-0 lead. The Lions opened the scoring through John McGinn’s 21st-minute effort before Leander Dendoncker doubled the lead five minutes later. However, the Red Devils came out all guns blazing in the second-half and snatched a victory courtesy of Alejandro Garnacho’s brace and Rasmus Hojlund’s winner eight minutes from time. It was Unai Emery’s side’s fourth top flight defeat of the campaign, but they still have a three point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, the Lions have been brilliant at home this season, having won nine of their last ten fixtures across all competitions at Villa Park, scoring 24 goals and conceding just seven in the process.
Burnley, on the other hand, are yet to find a winning formula in the top flight this season. The Clarets secured their third league-win of the season away to Fulham on December 23 thanks to second-half efforts from Wilson Odobert and Sander Berge. However, three days later, Vincent Kompany’s side suffered their 14th Premier League defeat of the campaign against league leaders Liverpool courtesy of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota’s efforts. Meanwhile, taking four points from a possible six in their last two away contests with Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion offers Burnley a flicker of hope, and they have avoided defeat in their last four visits to Villa Park, but the Lions triumphed 3-2 at Turf Moor eight months ago.
Aston Villa probable starting lineup: Martinez, Konsa, Carlos, Lenglet, Moreno, Cash, Luiz, Dendoncker, McGinn, Diaby, Watkins
Burnley probable starting lineup: Trafford, Vitinho, O’Shea, Beyer, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Berge, Brownhill, Odobert, Amdouni, Foster
