The game of the Premier League weekend is undoubtedly on Sunday with Arsenal welcoming Tottenham Hotspur for the north London derby. It is one of those matches that will surely get the supporters, not only in the region, but across the globe excited. What is more special is that both sides have made impressive starts to the new season and are yet to lose a game in the league. It is something that could change on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur’s revival has been down to one man – Ange Postecoglou. After taking charge of the club, he has quickly turned the mood around at the club despite their star captain Harry Kane leaving this summer. Many have praised Tottenham’s positive style of play under Postecoglou and the latest to join that list is Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Mikel Arteta on Ange Postecoglou

Ahead of their Premier League meeting, Arteta spoke glowingly about Postecoglou. “I really like him. I had players and I know players who had him and they always speak really, really highly of him. That’s not a coincidence, and you can tell straight away he is fitting in the right way. That’s the beauty of this league, we have top, top managers, top competition and every game is very difficult,” Arteta, quoted by Arsenal.com, said ahead of the match.

The Arsenal manager was then asked about how he intends to approach the game against Spurs on Sunday. “A new challenge, a new opportunity. Obviously they have a new manager who has done really, really well and changed the vibe and everything around the club. It’s a different style as well, so adapt to that, be ourselves and produce the performance that we need to beat them,” he said.

Mikel Arteta on Martin Odegaard

Arteta then spoke about the development of Martin Odegaard, who has started playing top level football from an extremely early age. “At a very early age, he had huge expectations. He made his debut with the national team as well when he was 15 or 16 and has played for five different teams in three different countries in that period. That’s a lot for someone to take, but I think you are made of the experiences and the journeys that you go through. Martin is the player that he is today at that age because of what he has been through in the last four or five years. That’s what makes the player and the person he is today. We are really happy that he’s found a home,” he added.

The Arsenal manager also explained what type of captain Odegaard is to the players. “I think he has a really good balance. You notice him around the building all the time because he’s doing all the right things that he needs. I think he’s quite funny and a really likeable person, so committed and I’m really, really happy to have him as a captain,” he explained.
