Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of a young talent in Alejo Veliz from South America, subject to international clearance and work permit. The striker who is just 19 years of age arrives from Argentina side Rosario Central. Veliz, who will don the number 36 shirt, has put pen to paper on a deal that will run until 2029. After making his first team debut in July 2021 at Rosario, the centre-forward has continued to impress many people.

Alejo Veliz has also played for Argentina at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup and Under-20 South American Championship not long ago. With a lot yet to come from the player, he will be one to keep an eye out for in the future. Recalling about how he reacted to Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in him, Veliz told SPURSPLAY, “When I first found about everything that was happening and that the club was interested in me, to be honest with you, I couldn’t believe it. It really didn’t sink in until I actually arrived here, and I realised exactly what was here.”

He added: “It really is a magnificent club and here’s hoping that I make the very most of my opportunity and perform in the best way possible. I’m coming here with a huge desire to do well. I’m totally on board and 100 per cent focussed on the task in hand here. I’m really pleased and grateful to have my family here with me, they’re always with me, and I’m totally fulfilling a dream, coming here to such a massive club. I will do my level best to grab my opportunity and hopefully everything will go as well as it possibly can for me here.”

Why did Alejo Veliz join Tottenham?

The 19-year-old forward also said why he decided to join Tottenham in this window. “When the opportunity came up for me to come here, I had no doubts whatsoever. I chatted with my family about it, and they were 100 per cent with me on my decision. Potentially, it might be a little bit tough to settle into life over here, but I’m fortunate to have Gio and one or two of the lads here at the club who have already reassured me that all will be fine and who will be here alongside me offering their help and support for whatever I may need,” he explained.

Alejo Veliz will have a couple of familiar faces at Tottenham in the form of World Cup winners Cuti Romero and Gio Lo Celso. Referring to them, he said, “The first thing that I’ll be doing is to check in with them to help me to get established here and feel fully settled in. The good thing is that I am a pretty open and friendly type of character and I always like to get on well with everyone, so I think that I will settle in very well here.”

Veliz then went on to explain what kind of centre-forward he is on the pitch and what to expect from him. “I’m very good in the air, but overall, I’m very passionate player who gives absolutely everything. I run for everything, and I never give up any pass as a lost cause. I’m going to give everything I can for this shirt,” he elaborated.
