Malvika Bansod is an Indian badminton player from Nagpur, Maharashtra. Bansod who idolises Lin Dan and Saina Nehwal in one of her interviews showed tremendous promise at a young age. Bansod started her career with state championships of Under-13 and Under-17 age groups. Although she was able to win both titles with ease; she failed to qualify for the Asian Junior Championships in 2018. Nevertheless, to compensate for the loss she managed to claim two back-to-back selection tournaments at the World Junior Championships. In the same year, she was crowned the winner of the South Asian Regional Under-21 Championship in singles as well as in a team. This phenomenal run of Bansod also included the All India senior ranking tournament in 2019. To add the cherry on top, Malvika also won the All India junior tournament as well followed by a bronze medal at the Belgian Junior International Championship.
Now coming to her international career, Malvika has not been able to make significant inroads at the top level. Bansod made her debut in 2019 and the debut didn’t go empty-handed as she won the Maldives International. A week later she managed to win the Nepal International. Subsequently, she jumped into the world’s top 200. Consequently, Bansod appeared in the Austrian Open International Series in 2021. However, her journey was ended in the quarterfinals of the tournament by Spain’s Clara Azurmendi. On the other hand, she has so far managed just one runner-up title at the BWF World Tour which was at the Syed Modi in 2022. Nevertheless, Malvika has been hailed as a new badminton sensation. Due to her sparkling career, she has been a recipient of many awards like the Nag Bhushan Award, the Khelo India Talent Development Athlete award and the TOPS Athlete award.
On the other hand, Malvika’s personal life has been out of the media scanner so far. The 22-year-old is not in any relationship currently. Malvika is fully focused on her career as of now and is eying the Paris Olympics to make her mark on the world stage.
