S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian is an Indian badminton player who competes in the men’s singles category. Sankar created headlines for the front pages after his phenomenal performance at the BWF World Junior Championships in Spain. He is a former world junior number 1 in the boys’ singles. At the age of 17, he reached the finals of the senior tournament the 2021 Uganda International. However, the young Indian shuttler lost to his compatriot Varun Kapur. Subramanian was, however, able to win the Luxembourg Open in 2023 where he played flawlessly to reach the finals. Subsequently, Sankar defeated Azerbaijani shuttler Ade Resky Dwicahyo in the finals. In the same year, he reached the finals of the Scottish Open. However, this time he was defeated by Danish shuttler Mads Christophersen in the finals.
Apart from the BWF International tour, Subramanian won the silver medal at the 2022 World Junior Championships. Subramanian has shown tremendous promise at both the international and national levels in the junior category. Sankar also won the Iran and Russian Junior International trophies which cemented his junior career. Subsequently, he has made inroads into the fortress of the senior badminton circuit. Although he has not been able to win the BWF World Tour titles so far; it is a mere eventuality before the 19-year-old lays his hands on the prized trophy. Moreover, if he gets a nod to participate in the Olympics, it will be a great boost for the youngster. However, the immediate objective will be to perform well in the ongoing Yonex Sunrise Guwahati Masters Super 100.
