Christian Adinata is an Indonesian badminton player who was born on June 16, 2001. Adinata, a Pati native, began his professional life at the Tangkas Intiland Club. He was chosen to play for the senior national team in 2021. He participated in the boys’ singles competition at the 2019 World Junior Championships.

Adinata reached the headlines after he competed in Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) for Indonesia in May and took home gold in the men’s team and singles competitions. He played in the finals against Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. Christian was the dominant player in the first set, but Chico made a comeback to take the game to the third set. However, in the third set, the 21-year-old raced past Chico to clinch the gold medal. Ardinata, who is currently ranked 56 will surely climb the ladder after showing promising performances in the SEA games.

Adinata’s journey to date

Adinata started his senior badminton career with a loss to the Indian player Mithun Manjunath in the Orléans Masters semifinals. However, he bounced back from there to take home a bronze medal for the men’s team at the Southeast Asian Games in late May. Adinata won his first senior championship at the Italian International in June. From there, he participated in the Taipei Open in July but was eliminated in the first round. In October, he participated in the domestic competition, the Indonesia Masters Super 100, but he was defeated by Taiwanese player Lee Chia-hao in the quarterfinals. Later on, he also had to taste defeat at the hands of the Japanese player Kodai Naraoka in the second round of the Australian Open.

Adinata participated in the Indonesia Masters, a local competition, in January but was defeated by Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the opening round of rubber games. He lost to Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the Thailand Masters in the subsequent competition. Adinata participated in the Spain Masters in March but was defeated by Danish player Rasmus Gemke, the sixth seed, in the second round. Adinata competed at the Orléans Masters in April. He defeated the previous champion of the event, Toma Junior Popov, but fell to Danish player Magnus Johannesen in the second round.

Prominent Achievements 

Ardinata has been a prodigal talent right from a young age itself. He has been a runner-up in the India and Dutch Junior Internationals. He has supplemented these performances with a Bronze and a Gold medal in the World Junior Championship and a Silver in the Asian Junior Championship. Apart from this, he has won the BWF International Series against Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen in Italy. Ardinata started his 2023 season by winning the gold medal in Southeast Asian Games against his fellow countryman Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in Cambodia. Ardinata’s marvellous performances in the Southeast Asian games are mere replications of his successful senior-level career performances that he has done in the past as well.

Ardinata has been a bronze medalist in the 2021 SEA Games and a gold medalist in the 2023 SEA Games. In between, he won a silver medal in the Asian Team Championships in 2022. Added to this, Ardinata has participated in a long list of tournaments like Indonesia Masters, Orleans Masters, Thailand Masters, Australian Open etc to name a few.
