Top Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen stormed into the quarter-finals of Indonesia Masters 2023, while veteran Saina Nehwal bowed out in the Round of 16 stage. World No. 12 Sen defeated Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia 19-21, 21-8, 21-17 in the last-16 encounter of the super 750 tournament in Jakarta. The 21-year-old will next face Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, who defeated compatriot Shesar Hiren Rhustavito in the round of 16, in the last-18 stage on Friday. Lakshya is the only Indian remaining in the singles category, with HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal among others bowing out of the competition. 

London Olympics bronze medalist Nehwal got knocked out in the round of 16 stage of the women’s singles section, courtesy of losing 21-15, 21-17 in 29 minutes against China’s Han Yue.Meanwhile, Indian women’s doubles duo of Tanisha Castro and Ashwini Ponappa got the better of Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Ribka Sugiarto in the round of 16 encounter on Thursday. The match went down the wire as both sets of players fought hard, but in the end, the Indian duo managed to come out on top with a scoreline of 19-21, 21-18, 23-21. Tanish and Ashwini will face the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hiroyta in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The 2023 Indonesia Masters Badminton Championship  will commence on January 24 and end on January 29.

There is no telecast on a TV Channel for the event in India till the quarter-final stage, but fans can catch the live action via BWF’s official YouTube channel BWFTV. 

From Thursday (January 26) onwards, Sports 18-1 will telecast the matches live, while live streaming is provided by JioCinema and Voot Select.
