World No. 12 Sen defeated Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia 19-21, 21-8, 21-17 in the last-16 encounter of the super 750 tournament in Jakarta. The 21-year-old will next face Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, who defeated compatriot Shesar Hiren Rhustavito in the round of 16, in the last-18 stage on Friday. Lakshya is the only Indian remaining in the singles category, with HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal among others bowing out of the competition.

London Olympics bronze medalist Nehwal got knocked out in the round of 16 stage of the women’s singles section, courtesy of losing 21-15, 21-17 in 29 minutes against China’s Han Yue.Meanwhile, Indian women’s doubles duo of Tanisha Castro and Ashwini Ponappa got the better of Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Ribka Sugiarto in the round of 16 encounter on Thursday. The match went down the wire as both sets of players fought hard, but in the end, the Indian duo managed to come out on top with a scoreline of 19-21, 21-18, 23-21. Tanish and Ashwini will face the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hiroyta in the quarter-finals on Friday.
