The dynamic badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have achieved yet another milestone in their name. The duo has climbed to the second spot in the latest update of the BWF rankings for the men’s doubles. Notably, Satwik and Chirag attained their career’s best ranking after clinching the Korean Open title recently. It was a top effort as they toppled the top-ranked Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the finals. This win was Satwik-Chirag’s third BWF title win in the calendar year. They won the Swiss Open and the Indonesian Open previously.

The two have not lost a single final this season and are on a 10-match unbeaten streak on the BWF World Tour. Their next assignment is to win the ongoing Japan Open. They are already in the Round of 16 in the ongoing tournament. Satwik and Chirag displaced the Chinese pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang to gain the No. 2 spot. The Indian duo have already muscled their way past the Chinese pair in the Korea Open semifinals last week.

Rankings of other shuttlers

The improvement in the rankings of Satwik and Chirag shows new daylight for Indian badminton. However, there has been some progress in the overall scenario as well. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been struggling with form and injuries this year. She has remained at world No. 12 in women’s singles. She has progressed past the round of 16 stage only twice this season. MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila are the next best Indian men’s doubles team at world No. 25.

In men’s singles, HS Prannoy remained at the ninth spot in the world badminton rankings. Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth moved up three places to world No. 19. On the other hand Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen too went up two spots to 18th. Priyanshu Rajawat, who won Orleans Masters in April, climbed up four places to enter the top 30. He was ranked outside the top 50 at the start of the year.

In the women’s doubles rankings, Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medallists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly remained India’s best-ranked pair at world No. 16. Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy were India’s top-ranked mixed doubles team at 33rd in the world.
