What happened in the match?

The third-seeded Indian men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty defeated Supak Jomkoh & Kittinupong Kedren of Thailand. The duo will now play in the round of 16. Although they were behind in the second game, they came through to win the match in straight games. Only Satwik and Chirag from India managed to win on the opening day of the competition. Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun, the other men’s doubles team, had to leave their match earlier due to an injury. However, Shashwat Dalal and Harshit Aggarwal did not advance. HS Prannoy and Priyanshu Rajawat also advanced from the round of 32.

However, the major upset of the tournament will be Kidambi Srikanth. The former world no. 1 missed out on a ticket to Kento Momota. Srikanth took the game to the three sets and fought it out till the end. However, he had to bow down to the Japanese challenge. From women’s singles, none of the female shuttlers could cross the round of 32. Nevertheless, this dismal performance was substituted by the result of the mixed doubles. Both the pair of Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor & of B.S. Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa have passed the round of 32.
