After an action-packed Odisha Masters where many young shuttlers like Sathish Kumar grabbed the headlines, the action now shifts to the domestic circuit. Many young and talented shuttlers are set to feature in the draw alongside some seasoned veterans in the form of Lakshya Sen, Dhruv Kapila and Kiran George will be in action. The competition is set to take place in the city of Guwahati from December 20.

The tournament will be hosted by the Assam Badminton Association. Interestingly this is the second major badminton event in the state after the recently concluded Guwahati Masters on December 10th. However, this is not the only tournament which will take place, the 76th Inter-State and Inter-Zonal competitions are also slotted in along with this particular tournament. The Badminton Association of India has announced a total tournament prize money of Rs 50 lakhs which is further bifurcated into Rs. 10 lakhs for the team championships and Rs. 40 lakhs for the open category. Which are the potential players to win the championships?

Many potential players can win the golden medal in the tournament. Talking about men’s singles, all eyes will be on the likes of Lakshya Sen, Kiran George and Mithun Manjunath who have relatively better exposure at the international level. Nevertheless, it can be an interesting draw if somebody other than these likely possibilities decides to dent the hopes of these seasoned veterans.

On the other hand, if we shift to women’s singles, the likes of Akarshi Kashyap and Ashmita Chaliha will have a slight edge over their opponents. However, things can get interesting in the form of Unnati Hooda and Anupama Upadhyaya. Consequently, the unseeded Malvika Bansod can also pose a potential challenge to Kashyap and Chaliha.

On the other hand, in the men’s doubles India’s number 2 pair of Dhruv Kapila and Arjun M.R. should comfortably win. Likewise, in the mixed doubles Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy N. will be able to win the tie quite comfortably given the fact these pairs have a considerable amount of international experience. However, there is always a lurking possibility of a new winner from these events. Naturally, things might get spicy a little bit if someone decides to prove his mettle.
