Letsile Tebogo has emerged as one of the brightest sprinting talents out of Botswana. In 2021, a 17-year-old Tebogo showcased his prowess to the world at the World Athletics Relays in Chorzów, Poland. However, it was later that year, at the World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi, that he truly shone and clinched gold in the 100 meters and secured silver in the 200 meters. With this, he scripted history for Botswana, as Tebogo was the first from his nation to win a 100m title at any World Championships.

The following year proved to be just as momentous for the young athlete. He claimed the 200m title at the African Championships 2022 and added another accolade to his long list of collections. He also earned the accomplishment of being the youngest-ever winner in the championship. However, it wasn’t just titles that Tebogo won as he was on a mission to break barriers.

In February 2022, Letsile Tebogo etched his name in the history of Botswana sports by setting a new national 100m record with a blistering 10.08 seconds. The Gaborone International Meet witnessed history just two months later when Tebogo shattered the 10-second mark and registered a sensational time of 9.96 seconds. This wasn’t just a national achievement as he established a world under-20 record on his way to the top.

However, Letsile Tebogo wasn’t finished there. Making his debut at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, in July, he bettered his own record, clocking an impressive 9.94 seconds. At the World U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, he once again outdid himself by setting a new time of 9.91 seconds. This helped him in winning the gold medal once again in the age-group event in the same discipline and attained a new World U20, championships and national record.

In 2023, Tebogo has been in exceptional form, having challenged many top superstars like Noah Lyles in the Diamond League events. In fact, he won the 200m event at the Lausanne Diamond League 2023. He will look to continue his sensational record of this year, when he represents his country at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest.
