Two-time Olympic champion Ryan Crouser shattered his own shot put world record with a shot put throw of 23.56 meters at the Los Angeles Grand Prix 2023. This surpasses his prior record of 23.37 meters, set during the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, in June 2021. Notably, Crouser is the sole athlete to ever exceed 23.50 meters, and he ecstatically celebrated this achievement on his fourth try at the Continental Tour Gold event.

The American athlete expressed his excitement to NBC, an American English-language commercial broadcast television and radio network, sharing that his current regime involved high-volume training, both in terms of throwing and weightlifting. He also added that he was just starting to incorporate some speed work. In fact, his first two attempts at the event, measuring 23.23 and 23.31 meters, would rank among the top six furthest throws ever made in the sport.

As the World Championships are coming closer, the impressive showing from the 30-year-old athlete Ryan Crouser was an encouraging sign, given his exploration of a new throwing technique this year. Tom Walsh from New Zealand, a double Olympic bronze medalist, placed second with a throw of 22.12 meters. While, the United States of America’s Payton Otterdahl came third, throwing 21.99 meters.
