The latest episode of WWE SmackDown kicked off with a bang featuring electrifying returns and top-tier in-ring action that kept fans on the edge of their seats. From surprise comebacks to intense showdowns the show had it all delivering a thrilling experience for wrestling enthusiasts.

The Rock and Pat McAfee make a spectacular return

The show opened with a jaw-dropping return as Pat McAfee the charismatic commentator made an unexpected comeback. His energetic promo and presence electrified the audience setting the tone for an unforgettable night. However, McAfee’s return was just the beginning of the surprises.

Austin Theory who had a history with McAfee interrupted his promo leading to a fiery exchange of words. The tension in the arena escalated as McAfee declared SmackDown as “the people’s show,” and that’s when the roof nearly blew off the venue.

The moment everyone had been waiting for arrived when the legendary Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his triumphant return to the WWE ring. The crowd erupted with a thunderous ovation as “The Great One” graced them with his presence.

A prolonged and bleeped-out chant from the audience was followed by The Rock laying out Austin Theory with his signature move the People’s Elbow to a deafening response. Pat McAfee added his own flair to the segment making it a fantastic unexpected opening that showcased the magic of professional wrestling.

Styles vs Balor

AJ Styles and Finn Balor are two of the most talented performers in WWE. They clashed in a match that promised excitement and they delivered. Despite a mid-match commercial break interrupting their showdown the former world champions put on a competitive and engaging match.

This bout featured a twist as Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio attempted to interfere but were ejected from ringside. The crafty Jimmy Uso then inserted himself into the match setting the stage for Balor’s victory.

The finish hinted at an ongoing rivalry between Styles and Uso keeping the Judgment Day storyline alive and exciting fans across all WWE brands. Despite the interruptions, the match showcased the incredible in-ring skills of both Styles and Balor.

Winner: Finn Balor

LWO vs Street Profits

The backstage segment saw Finn Balor trying to recruit Jimmy Uso for Judgment Day emphasizing the absence of leaders and the freedom it provides. Uso seemed intrigued leaving the door open for further developments.

In the arena, the LWO (Latin World Order), consisting of Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, Zelina Vega, Cruz Del Toro, and Joaquin Wilde, engaged in a promo. Escobar respectfully challenged Mysterio for the United States Championship setting the stage for an exciting showdown.

However, the moment was disrupted when Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits intervened leading to a tag team match. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins quickly dispatched Del Toro and Wilde establishing themselves as heels with a post-match attack.

While the match served its purpose, it did little to elevate Del Toro and Wilde who have faced recent losses. The strength of the LWO lies in the unity of its members and portraying two of them as enhancement talents could diminish the group’s overall value. With Lashley in the mix, the United States Championship picture becomes even more intriguing.

Winner: Street Profits

LA Knight vs The Miz

LA Knight continued his impressive run with a victory over former WWE champion The Miz. The crowd was fervently behind Knight while Miz played his role as the antagonistic heel to perfection.

The match while not overly long allowed Knight to showcase his skills and momentum as he inches closer to a potential showdown with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Recent teases involving Paul Heyman have fueled speculation about a significant future match and Knight’s victory over The Miz only adds to the anticipation.

Winner: LA Knight

Asuka vs Bayley

Asuka and Bayley both known for their exceptional in-ring abilities squared off in a match that while not reaching greatness was undeniably good. The bout featured a familiar theme of interference as Shotzi distracted Bayley allowing Asuka to secure the win.

This storyline tactic repeated from an earlier match did serve its purpose of advancing storylines and maintaining the momentum of the winner. However, it also highlighted the need for variety in finishes as repetition can undermine the impact of these interference-driven outcomes.

While the idea of interconnected feuds is promising it’s essential to ensure that each match offers a unique and engaging experience for the audience.

Winner: Asuka

John Cena and The Grayson Waller effect

The segment involving John Cena and The Grayson Waller Effect left room for improvement. Cena remained silent as Waller followed by Jey Uso engaged in verbal exchanges. The segment culminated in a brawl with Solo Sikoa and AJ Styles joining the fray to restore order.

The segment felt somewhat messy and lacked a clear purpose or narrative direction. While it set the stage for potential future rivalries, it left some fans wanting more from Cena’s appearance on a night that began with the electrifying return of The Rock.
