Six-time WWE Hardcore Champion Al Snow (who would have made a fantastic Batman antagonist during the Attitude Era) provided a first-hand description of the conflict that raged between the two superstars throughout the 1990s during a July 2023 visit on Wrestling Shoot Interviews. When he dissected everything, he didn’t appear to spare many specifics. Snow claims that Hart, who was well-known for his practical jokes, teamed up with his brother-in-law the British Bulldog to harass Jannetty.
“Marty had a pair of gear that Marty didn’t like to wear; wasn’t flattering. And so the gear that he did like to wear, Owen and Bulldog put a padlock on his singlet so he couldn’t wear it. He tried everything to get that padlock off and he couldn’t do it.” Said Snow.
The former Tough Enough host continued by saying that for the remaining episodes of the show, Jannetty did whatever he could to remove the lock from the singlet. He even went so far as to inquire of gym patrons if they had any bolt cutters, which would have been odd if they did. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and in the case of the padlocked trunks, that is essentially what occurred. As the tour continued, Jannetty began to carry out his plan of retaliation. He first puffed up Hart’s tyres outside the arena before calling the local airport to reschedule the Canadian athlete’s departure from Pittsburgh. The “bag de gross,” or the coup de grâce, didn’t arrive until later.

The former Intercontinental Champion purchased a bag of peel-and-eat prawns during the penultimate leg of the tour, according to Snow, with the express intention of teasing Hart and the British Bulldog with the brine days later. “The last night of the tour is Bangor, Maine, and Davey and Owen knew something was afoot, so they got dressed in their car. Finally, they brought their bags in, and then he grabbed that bag of brine and poured it into their suitcases on their clothes to get back at them for putting the padlock on his gear.” Snow expressed.
Snow went on to explain that they proceeded to play unexpected and unpredictable pranks on one other. One of the other memorable antics he remembers was Jannetty locating a skunk on the side of the road and bringing it to the locker room the next night.
