Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins, and Asuka, all WWE Superstars, now have new Championships with new looks. Present Intercontinental Champion Gunther indicated that he is content with the title he currently holds and does not see a need to change it, despite the trend of WWE renaming and overtly establishing new titles. The Ring General has ruled the Intercontinental title scene for more than 371 days and destroyed every challenger thrown in front of him, including veterans, legends, and novices.

Many think he’ll beat Honky Tonk Man’s Intercontinental title reign record of 454 days. Gunther needs to hold the title of Champion through September 7th, 2023, in order to attain that milestone.

‘I’m fine with the one I got.’

Gunther responded simply that he is fine with it and actually enjoyed the original design with white straps when questioned on The Ten Count podcast if he would like to follow in the footsteps of Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins, and Asuka in obtaining a new title design. “I’m fine with the one I got. I personally always liked the old design with the white strap. But things got to develop and things got to move forward and I think it’s just personal taste and I’m very pleased with how it looks right now.” Expressed the 35 year old wrestler.

‘Gunther is going to be a major, major player’

Finding Roman Reigns’ replacement will be challenging. Reigns’ 1000+ day reign as Universal Champion is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, therefore whoever succeeds him as the top heel in WWE is going to struggle. However, Dutch Mantell claimed that Gunther might be positioned as the ideal Reigns replacement and take over as the company’s top villain in March 2023. “I hope Cody [Rhodes] can carry it, but who knows, who’s the other big heel coming along? They got Gunther. And Gunther is going to be a major, major player. And I think if Cody goes over, which he probably will because they need to change the landscape.” Exclaimed Mantell.

At the moment, Gunther has no intentions of defending his title at the Money in The Bank Premium Live Event on July 1. Who he will square up against next is unknown.
