When it comes to the price of WWE trading cards, there is a new leader in the clubhouse. According to PWCC Marketplace, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s 2022 Panini Prizm WWE Black Prizm counterpart sold for a record-breaking $126,000 on Thursday night. This amount is more than twice the previous high-selling WWE card, a Hulk Hogan rookie card.

In reality, there is only one duplicate of this card, making it incredibly difficult to discover, let alone bid on. It also comes from the first WWE Prizm trading card set issued after Panini Group took over the rights to WWE trading cards in 2022, after Topps Company had those rights for over two decades. The card was rated Near Mint 7 by Professional Sports Authenticator.

The Rock is seen in the holofoil picture performing his famous Rock Bottom finishing technique to the longtime opponent “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Johnson and Austin were unquestionably the two greatest talents of WWE’s late-1990s Attitude Era, and they faced off at three different WrestleMania events. Johnson, of course, went on to become a big movie star and the owner of the XFL, while Austin returned to the ring at WrestleMania 38 last year.

“This is arguably the best WWE trading card in existence,” Jesse Craig, Vice President of Sales at PWCC, said of the sale. “Cards like this rarely surface for public sale since they are so scarce. And when scarcity outweighs public demand, you see record prices. This was the perfect combination to drive that demand.”

Is by any chance The Rock going to be at WrestleMania 40?

The Rock was supposed to compete for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles, but the event never took place. A similar situation appears to be possible in Philadelphia a year from now. In the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night Two, Roman Reigns defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes. The audience expected The American Nightmare to conclude his story and dethrone The Tribal Chief, but that was not to be.

Solo Sikoa interfered in the match, allowing Reigns to maintain his historic title reign. Many fans believe that The Rock will return to defeat Reigns once his credible challengers run out. WWE fans should not expect The Great One to appear at WrestleMania 40 next year, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of Gunther or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon,” said Dave Meltzer. [H/T: Cultaholic]
