To set up a bout between Jack Perry and himself, wrestling great Rob Van Dam made his AEW debut by confronting Perry. The FTW Champion Jack Perry confronting AEW Producer/Coach Jerry Lynn, a former great wrestler who spent many years in ECW among other places, was one of the segments promoted on the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite from Tampa.

The Segment

The conversation involving Perry and Lynn was anticipated on the AEW Dynamite broadcast of July 26 when Perry criticized ECW, the source of the FTW Title. Taz established the FTW Title in ECW and introduced it to AEW a few years back. Jerry Lynn was invited to meet Jack Perry in the ring this week as Perry was performing a promo. At that point, Lynn appeared and reminded us that he had been retired from wrestling due to having plates and screws in his neck. However, Lynn dialed Rob Van Dam, a buddy.

Rob Van Dam Cheered Heavily

Rob Van Dam was loudly applauded as he entered the arena. Because RVD utilized the song “Walk” by Pantera in ECW, fans of that show will recognise it as Van Dam’s entrance music. Perry tumbled out of the ring and backed out as Rob Van entered the ring with him. Fans jeered at Jack. Perry attempted to strike with a steel chair when Jerry Lynn walked down to the ring to speak with RVD. RVD attempted a spin kick after Jack dodged his chair attack, but Jack parried it. Jack left once more. The audience cheered as Rob Van Dam performed the “RVD” thumb point.

Rob Van Dam Challenged Jack Perry

Renee Paquette spoke with Rob Van Dam in the backstage area later in the performance. RVD claimed to have overheard Jack Perry yelling, which is why he was present. RVD discussed his history of elevating titles to feel more significant. Next week, according to RVD, he intends to issue an FTW Title match challenge to Jack Perry. It was formally announced later in the programme.

Fightful Select had earlier on Wednesday suggested that AEW might bring in RVD for the All In pay-per-view on August 27. After his bout against Jack Perry on Dynamite next week, there is no indication yet on whether RVD will be a part of All In or what his future in AEW will be.
