The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes defied the odds when he stepped inside Hell in a Cell with a torn pectoral muscle and not only had a gruelling match with Seth Rollins but also won. There was a gasp from the crowd when he removed his coat to show a dark patch which was obviously the injured pectoral muscle. The next night on RAW, Rhodes was greeted by Rollins who appeared to put their feud behind him and move on but attacked Cody from behind with a sledgehammer and targeted the injured part constantly.

There is now news on when Rhodes will have his surgery. According to PWInsider, Rhodes will receive surgery on his torn pec today, one day earlier than originally thought. The report also noted that the surgery will take place in Birmingham, Alabama, suggesting the surgery will be handled by the renowned Dr James Andrews, who has been a go-to surgeon for wrestlers over the years and is also based in Birmingham. Wrestlers who have suffered the same injury in the past have taken anywhere from 3 to 5 months to recover. John Cena took 3 months while Triple H took 5 months to recover from the same injury. So, it is impossible to put a fixed date on when Cody might return.

What next for Cody Rhodes?

Cody Rhodes, when he returns may be coming into an entirely new landscape. John Cena would have made his return. Brock Lesnar might also come back by the time Rhodes makes his return. And then there is the spectre of Cody winning the big one, the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. The options are many and WWE will have a good problem on their hands when Cody does make his return.

If the timeline for his recovery is 5 to 6 months, then Cody can make his return in time for the Royal Rumble. WWE could keep it simple by letting Rhodes win the Rumble and thereby go and challenge whoever is the champion by that time. Or they could go a different route and spice things up by letting Seth Rollins win the Royal Rumble and then adding Rhodes into the match later on and thereby making it a triple threat match. That would be the smart option as we have already seen Rhodes and Rollins fight each other three times. A triple threat match which includes Rollins, Reigns and Rhodes would be the best way to go ahead.
