As a result of their sensational performances, Vietnam and China have earned the opportunity to play in the competition's first semi-final match on September 5, 2023.
The Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023, which is the 22nd edition of the prestigious event, is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 6, 2023. Nakhon Ratchasima, a city in Thailand, will be the host for this year’s championship. Organized by the Thailand Volleyball Association under the guidance of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), the competition will take place in two separate venues within the city. These venues are the MCC Hall at The Mall Nakhon Ratchasima and Korat Chatchai Hall.
The top three teams (representing the Asian continent) who perform well in this event will qualify for the Women’s Volleyball World Championship 2025, as the reward. Based on the rules set by the AVC, the tournament will include various teams from Asia. The host country, Thailand, automatically gets one entry. Additionally, ten more slots will be filled according to the teams’ performance in the last edition of the tournament. The remaining five positions will be spread out across five distinct geographical zones within Asia.
In the Pool E and F matches of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023, the teams from China, Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam each notched impressive performance over the other members in the group. As a result of their sensational performances, Vietnam and China have earned the opportunity to play in the competition’s first semi-final match on September 5, 2023.
The semi-final appearance marks a historic occasion for Vietnam, as it’s the first time they have made it to the last four in the event since their debut in 1991. While China, coming off a gold-medal win at the Chengdu Universiade, defeated India with a dominant score of 25-9, 25-10, and 25-12 in their first Pool F contest to make a place for themselves in the semis.
