The grand finale of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League’s fifth season is scheduled for July 16, 2023. The league began play on May 30, 2023. Finals will be held in Arlington, Texas.  There will be 104 matches between the 16 teams in the competition, which will follow the same format that was established in 2022. A preliminary stage is held before the final stage, during which the games are split into pools of matches numbered 1 through 6, with matches taking place in cities around the world like Bangkok, Nagoya, Hong Kong, Brasilia, and Antalya.

Each team engages in a total of 12 matches during the first phase, which lasts three weeks, against a variety of opponents. The top eight will advance to the final round based on who managed to earn the most points during this time. Three rounds—the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship match—make up the concluding section. The United States already has a spot in the final eight secured because they are hosting the final stage, though their exact placement is unknown.

The US Women’s National Team lost to Japan 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) on Sunday in a preliminary round match at Brookshire Grocery Arena, marking the team’s first defeat of the 2022 Volleyball Nations League.  The US Women struggled to stop outside shooters Sarina Koga and Arisa Inoue of No. 7 Japan, who combined for 19 points, the night after defeating their biggest rival and No. 2 in the world Brazil. With the win, Japan raised its record to 4-0.
