The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League will be the fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League.
The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League will be the fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League. It is an annual men’s international volleyball tournament. The competition will be held during the months of June and July. The final round will take place in Ergo Arena, Gdańsk, Poland. Although the entire format remains the same along with the final roster of the countries taking part. However, there are some minor changes to the final list of participants. Following the results of the 2022 Nations League and 2022 Challenger Cup, Australia were replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.
There are a total of sixteen teams out of which 8 teams will be heading to the finals of the Nations League. At the end of Round 1 on 12th June Japan sees itself as the leaderboard of the table. The Japanese team is followed by the United States, Argentina and Slovenia. Four teams face the axe of elimination: Cuba, Germany, Canada, and China. The defending champions, France find themselves in a precarious position at twelfth place. On the other hand, last year’s runners-up, the USA is well on top to place their bids for the gold medal. The Round 2 of the Volleyball Men’s Nations League starts on 20th June. It will be interesting to see if anyone challenges the position of Japan.
The format of the play is the same as the previous edition. According to that, 16 men’s teams will compete in pools of 8 during the pool phase. Each team plays 12 matches during the pool stage. Eight teams will then move into the final knockout phase of the competition. The finals will have these 8 teams move directly to the knockout stage. The knockout phase will then comprise 8 matches in total: four quarterfinals, two semi-finals and the bronze and gold medal matches.
The first-ranked team will play a quarterfinal match against the eighth-ranked team, the second-ranked team will play a quarterfinal match against the seventh-ranked team, the third-ranked team will play a quarterfinal match against the sixth-ranked team, the fourth-ranked team will play a quarterfinal match against the fifth-ranked team. The national team of the hosting territory of the event will have a guaranteed berth for the Final round. If the host nation does not finish in the top eight in the preliminary round, they will replace the eighth-place team and play as the eighth seed.
