In the female division of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2023, reigning champions France will aim to defend their title.
The CEV European Golden League 2023, which began on May 27, 2023, is a competition that brings together 12 teams from each gender from across Europe. The championship adopts a dual round-robin system in which each team competes against all others twice, ensuring that they play both on their court and that of their rivals. The overall winner in each division will earn a considerable €125,000. Moreover, the two most outstanding teams from each gender will earn a place in the coveted 2023 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup. However, the team that ends up in the last position will be demoted to the Silver League in the year 2024.
In the female division of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2023, reigning champions France will aim to defend their title. Croatia, which stood at the third position alongside Romania in the previous year, will be absent this year. However, they earned their entry into the 2022 Challenger Cup as hosts and ultimately clinched the cup. This victory has propelled them into the global volleyball elite, allowing them to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League 2023. The 2023 version of the Golden League 2023 will feature nine formidable teams.
These squads have been split into three groups. Pool A will consist of Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sweden. Pool B includes the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania, while Pool C comprises France, Ukraine, and Hungary. The competition’s semi-finals are scheduled for the 24th and 25th of June for the home games, followed by the away games on the 28th of June. The grand finals will unfold with the home matches on July 6, 2023, and the away matches on July 9, 2023.
The most formidable team in Group A is Belgium, who are more determined than ever to reclaim their place in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League, a position that was occupied by Croatia in the previous year. Sweden, the champions of the Silver League in 2022, has been promoted to the Golden League this year, making them one to watch out for. Another significant team in this group is Bosnia and Herzegovina, who, having triumphed in the Silver League in 2021, has been a part of the Golden Elite ever since.
In Group B, the spotlight will be on the Czech Republic, the runners-up from last year and two-time champions in 2012 and 2019. France, who made history by winning the women’s title in 2022, will be prepared to defend their title. They are grouped in Pool C along with two former European League winners – Ukraine, the winners of the 2017 tournament, and Hungary, who clinched the title back in 2015.
