Phase 2 of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 kickoff with Japan facing Belgium on Tuesday. This contest has all the necessary ingredients to be a pulsating affair. The Women’s World Championship 2022, which is hosted in the Netherlands and Poland this year, started on 23rd September and will end on 15th October. 

In Phase 1, both teams’ statistics have been nothing short of identical. Japan were placed in Pool D and had some difficult opponents along them in the group. Overall they managed 12 points from five games, which consisted of four wins and a defeat. Belgium came up with a similar showing in Pool A. They also got 12 points from five games, having won four and lost once. Both sides are heading into this fixture on the back of winning their last match. Japan defeated Argentina, while Belgium got the better of Cameroon.

FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 Volleyball Format

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
