The FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2023 saw a series of high-stakes matches among 16 teams. The top eight teams have emerged, ready for the quarterfinal face-offs set for July 12 and 13, 2023, at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, USA. The eight teams that qualified for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League 2023 quarterfinals include the hosting nation, the United States, alongside Poland, Turkey, China, Brazil, Italy, Japan, and Germany. The United States, Turkey, and Brazil are the only countries to have reached the final stage in all five of the previous editions. In a historical first, Germany is set to make its debut appearance in the final round, while the other countries have at least one prior final eight appearance.

Quarter-Finals 1 & 2

Kicking off the quarterfinals, Poland and Germany will cross paths in an intense encounter. Poland topped the preliminary round standings with ten victories out of twelve matches over the three-week period. Germany secured their eighth place with seven triumphs, most of which they achieved within the first two weeks. Having reached the final round in 2019, Poland marks their second VNL Finals appearance, with Coach Stefano Lavarini masterfully leading the charge. However, under the guidance of Vital Heynen, Germany strides into the final 8 for their inaugural entry.

Following this is a clash of titans between the United States and Japan, with the United States aiming for a remarkable fourth VNL 2023 title. The United States has consistently showcased their dominance in the tournament, making it to the final phase for five consecutive times. Conversely, Japan has secured their third straight VNL Finals appearance despite missing out on the podium last year after a three-title streak. The United States attained second place, trailing Poland, after achieving ten victories in the preliminary round, while Japan finished seventh with seven wins at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League 2023.

Quarter-Finals 3 & 4

The third quarterfinal is set to reignite the age-old rivalry between Brazil and China on July 13. These teams have a history dating back to the inaugural VNL in 2018, where China defeated Brazil in straight sets during the semifinals. Both teams boast an identical win record after the preliminary round with eight wins. Brazil, who made it to the finals in all past editions, aims to break their streak of three consecutive second-place finishes. On the other hand, China seeks another medal win after their early tournament exit in 2021 and missing the final four in 2022, following their consecutive bronze medal victories in the first two editions.

The final quarterfinal match will see Italy defending their title against Turkey on July 13. Italy, having reached the VNL Finals in 2019 and 2022, seeks to win consecutive VNL titles after becoming the second team to clinch the VNL title last year. Turkey, who have made it to the final stage in all five previous editions, finished third in the 2023 VNL preliminaries, securing nine victories. They previously graced the podium in 2018 with a silver medal and then again in 2021 with a bronze medal finish.
