Having kicked off on May 27, 2023, the CEV European Golden League 2023 for men and women is hosting 12 European nations in each division. The championship follows a two-fold round-robin format which requires each team to face each other twice, marking their presence on both their home and the opponent’s turf. Annually, the stakes remain high, with the ultimate winner in each category set to receive a hefty € 125,000. Additionally, the top two performers from each category get to secure their berth in the forthcoming 2023 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup. On the other hand, the team which occupies the last place faces a downgrade to the Silver League in 2024.

The CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2023 segregates the 12 teams into three separate pools. Pool A has Türkiye, Portugal, Romania, and Denmark, Pool B contains Ukraine, Belgium, Croatia, and North Macedonia; while Pool C includes Finland, the current champions Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Estonia. The league phase is set to wrap up on June 18, after which, the men’s Final Four takes place in a country yet to be announced. The home team will compete alongside the winners from each of the three pools for the prestigious title. If the home country emerges victorious in their respective pool, the second-highest ranked team from all the pools gets a ticket to the final showdown.

In Pool A, Türkiye stands as the most noteworthy contender in the men’s division of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2023, boasting a track record of seven podium finishes, including championship titles in 2019 and 2021. They are the highest-rated team participating in the tournament and hold the position of second-place finishers from last year’s competition. Romania, the champions of the previous year’s European Silver League, will be sharing the pool with Türkiye and gearing up for a demanding contest. Additionally, Denmark, the 2021 CEV Volleyball European Silver League champions, and Portugal, the 2010 winners of this league, add to the competition in Pool A.

Pool B includes the champions of the 2017 and 2013 European Leagues, respectively. This pool also hosts North Macedonia and Croatia who are the three-time and two-time silver medalists respectively. Pool C which is considered the most competitive hosts an array of past winners including the Czech Republic and Estonia, both bagging the title twice in 2004 & 2022 and 2016 & 2018 respectively. Alongside them, Slovakia, another two-time champion from 2008 and 2011, and Finland, the 2005 silver medalist, add to the competitiveness of this pool.
