The wait is finally over as the fans around the globe are all set to witness the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Beach Volleyball will make its second appearance in the competition after making its debut four years ago in Gold Coast, Australia. A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in a bid to win the gold, silver and bronze medals. On Day 1 (30th July), four men’s matches and two women’s games will occur. Beach volleyball begins from July 30th to August 7th, with knockout rounds commencing on August 5th and the finals on the 7th.
The matches will begin with the Commonwealth Games hosts England taking on Tuvalu on Saturday. This clash will be followed by a contest between two African sides, with Rwanda facing South Africa and New Zealand playing Cyprus. The men’s action on the day will conclude with reigning gold medal champions Australia taking on the Maldives. Four years ago, the Aussies defeated Canada to clinch the top medal in the men’s section. Meanwhile, their neighbours New Zealand won the bronze in the same section. With most of the eyes focused on the gold medal holder Australia and tournament hosts England, it will be interesting to see how they will fare in this competition.

A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in the beach volleyball competition that will take place from 30th July to 7th August. The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
