World U21 Snooker Championship 2023: India & Wales become the champions

Liam Davies of the Wales national team won the World Under-21 Snooker Championship yesterday after defeating German competitor Alexander Widow 5-2.

The top junior snooker amateur competition in the world is the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship, also known as the World Amateur Under-21 Snooker Championship. The International Billiards and Snooker Federation approved the event series in 1987, and it has been ongoing ever since. Ken Doherty, Peter Ebdon, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Neil Robertson were among the four champions in this event who went on to win the world professional Snooker championship.

Over 100 male and female players from 15 different national teams participated in the game over the course of ten days. The president of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF), Mubarak Al-Khayarin, Dr. Nasser Al-Shammari, the president of the Saudi Arabian Billiard and Snooker Federation, and members of the competing teams were all present for the closing ceremony.

Who won the men’s and women’s competitions?

The junior men’s final featured a contest between Liam Davies of Wales and Alexander Widow of Germany, while Catherine Banden and Anbamy Ramshamandan played each other in the women’s final. Liam Davies of the Wales national team won the World Under-21 Snooker Championship in the men’s category after defeating German competitor Alexander Widow 5-2. Catherine Banden of India defeated fellow countrywoman Anbamy Ramshamandan 4-1 to claim the title of female champion.

Over 100 male and female competitors from 15 different national teams competed in the Championship, which was held in Riyadh over the course of ten days by the Saudi Arabian Billiard and Snooker Federation. The winners were announced, and the delegation captains, referees, and organizers were honored during the tournament’s closing ceremony by Mubarak Al-Khayarin, president of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF), and Dr. Nasser Al-Shammari, president of the Saudi Arabian Billiard and Snooker Federation.

Al-Khayarin applauded the event’s success and declared, “We are proud as Arabs that Saudi Arabia successfully organized the championship, yielding favorable reactions from all participants. Future hosts of any international event will face tough competition, including Saudi Arabia. “Saudi Arabia and Qatar will work closely together to establish joint camps and to foster their close partnership,” he added.

Davies was the youngest player to claim a victory at the 2022 World Snooker Championship while competing there. Before falling to Jordan Brown in the penultimate qualifying round, Davies had already defeated Aaron Hill and Fergal O’Brien.
