Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has signed a five-year deal with Inter Milan. The Cameroon international will join the Serie A champions in July 2022 as a free agent. This was disclosed by transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, in a tweet via Twitter handle. The 25-year-old is seen as a replacement for an aging Samir Handanovic. Inter beat out teams the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona for his signature and a nice young keeper in goal. Meanwhile he has appeared just once since returning from a nine-month drugs ban in December.

Onana has been exceptional for Ajax over the past few years. He played a pivotal role when the Dutch side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018-19. But then this doping thing happened. He wasn’t allowed to train with the squad until the last month of his ban to regain some rhythm.

Inter Milan had Onana identified as their preferred successor to Handanovic in goal for the long term, and have only been waiting until they could make the signing official. The medical was reportedly held on Wednesday before Onana goes for International duty with Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations, and then, he will return to spend the rest of the season with Ajax.

At the end of the season, when his contract with Ajax comes to an end in June 2022, he will officially join Inter. He will earn 3 million Euros per season.

Maitland-Niles close to joining As Roma

Meanwhile AS Roma are reportedly on the verge of signing Arsenal player Maitland-Niles. The 24-year-old, who emerged as an exciting talent at the start of his Arsenal career, has suffered a recent decline.

Maitland-Niles hasn’t been able to establish himself at the London club and spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom. This season, the Englishman has played only eight league games but the total playing time amounts to less than three 90-minute stints. Everton wanted to sign him but Arsenal blocked the move, though he took to social media to vent his frustration at his lack of playing time.

Meanwhile talks over a move to Roma have been ongoing for the past few weeks with Jose Mourinho interested in signing the youngster. Il Corriere dello Sport claims Roma are on the verge of announcing his signing. They claim that talks have reached a positive conclusion and Maitland-Niles’ camp have “reached an agreement” on personal term

The report says that the full-back will initially sign a loan deal, with a three-year deal commencing from July 1. The deal will run until summer 2025 and see Maitland-Niles earn 2.5 million Euros per season.
