UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik has weighed in on the possibility of Ronda Rousey returning to the UFC. Anik stated his belief that Rousey should not receive an immediate title shot if she returns.

“In a true meritocracy, that’s not gonna set well with me nor the athletes that have been donating blood, sweat, and tears to mixed martial arts over the last several years,” Anik said. “If anyone is worthy of that opportunity, it’s probably Ronda Rousey, and I do believe that she would be competitive. She wouldn’t enter that setting without the guarantee that she would be competitive. But, I didn’t like that Henry Cejudo came back and cut the line of a bunch of 35ers that have been active. So it would be hypocritical of me to say ‘absolutely’… But if there were ever a time, it would be absolutely now.”

Ronda Rousey’s UFC Career on Rift: Shifts Focus to Professional Wrestling

Ronda Rousey has not competed in the UFC since 2016 when Amanda Nunes defeated her in a first-round TKO. She has since retired from MMA and has focused on her career in professional wrestling.

However, the recent UFC-WWE merger has led to speculation that Rousey could return to the UFC. If she does return, Anik believes that she should have earned her way back to a title shot.

“I think she should have to fight her way back,” Anik said. “I think she should have to fight a couple of tough contenders and prove that she’s still the same Ronda Rousey that we saw before.”

Anik’s comments are likely to be met with mixed reactions. Some fans will agree with him that Rousey should have to earn her way back to a title shot. Others will argue that Rousey is a special case and that she deserves an immediate title shot based on her past accomplishments.
