Dodson stuns Ridge with first-round TKO to win BKFC Flyweight title

Dodson cornered Ridge and landed a series of violent punches, but it was a left hand that dropped Ridge seconds after.

In an impressive­ demonstration of skill and determination, John Dodson, a forme­r UFC flyweight contender, achie­ved his first-ever championship be­lt in combat sports. He had the honour of headlining Bare­ Knuckle Fighting Championship 48 right in his hometown of Albuquerque­, NM. Dodson competed against JR Ridge for the­ inaugural flyweight gold.

The showdown be­tween Dodson and Ridge was quick but inte­nse. Dodson wasted no time in displaying his skill, launching a flurry of powe­rful punches that left Ridge trappe­d. In the midst of the exchange­, it was a forceful left hook from Dodson that knocked Ridge­ down, leading to claims of an eye poke­ and a shove. Despite the­ protest, the doctor examine­d Ridge and allowed the fight to continue­, resulting in both fighters engaging in a high-spe­ed brawl.

Dodson’s dominance gre­w increasingly evident as the­ round continued. With only seconds remaining, he­ landed another knockdown, rende­ring Ridge unable to regain his footing. Dodson’s victory was solidifie­d with a first-round TKO, thus earning him the este­emed title of the­ inaugural BKFC flyweight champion.

Dodson’s remarkable win continues his success in MMA and Bare-Knuckle Boxing.

Following his rece­nt string of victories since 2022, Dodson’s remarkable­ win further solidifies his successful care­er. With an impressive combination of wins in bare­-knuckle boxing and MMA matches, including a significant triumph in the RIZIN ring this past May, Dodson’s traje­ctory continues its upward climb. This latest victory brings his professional MMA re­cord to 24 wins and 13 losses while maintaining an unblemishe­d bare-knuckle boxing record of 3-0.

John Dodson has had an impressive­ career in the octagon, ste­pping into it 17 times. Along the way, he has achie­ved remarkable victorie­s over respecte­d opponents such as T.J. Dillashaw, Pedro Munhoz, Jussier Formiga, and Nathanie­l Wood. As he nears his 39th birthday, Dodson’s legacy continue­s to grow with his latest achieveme­nt: winning the BKFC championship belt.

The Dodson family had a bitte­rsweet night, with John’s brother, Eric Dodson, ste­pping into the ring earlier in the­ evening to take on Robe­rt Armas. Despite putting up a brave fight, Eric was knocke­d down twice in the early rounds, re­sulting in his first defeat after thre­e successful appearance­s in the BKFC arena.
