Saurashtra wicket keeper-batter Sheldon Jackson might be still waiting for the right opportunity to show his abilities as a batter for KKR in IPL 2022 but his wicket-keeping skills have already raised some eyebrows in the ongoing season.

Jackson is lightning fast behind the stumps with his glovework which makes him an asset for KKR. He reads the spin well and doesn’t usually prefer to wear a helmet while keeping the stumps.

KKR head coach Brendon McCullum believes that Jackson is a work in progress and at 35, desperate to prove his abilities. He further highlighted that his wicket-keeping skills have got a MS Dhoni-like feel to it.

“Sheldon continues to get better and better. He is 35, but you wouldn’t know. His growth in the last two years has been significant. He has a good ball-striking ability. And very few players hit the ball as far as he does, he is not too far, if not the same, behind Andre Russell when he is striking the ball. I am sure with more opportunities, we will see a performance from Sheldon,” McCullum told reporters.

“The wicketkeeping skills have been superb. He has got a MS Dhoni sort of a feel about keeping; really fast hands, and an understanding of spin. He knows what the bowlers are doing. He is desperate to do well,” he added.

KKR fielding coach James Foster is excellent: David Hussey

KKR have already displayed some excellent fielding in the IPL 2022 with New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee turning heads with his sprint to dismiss Kagiso Rabada in the match against PBKS.

“The boys do a lot of fielding. The fielding coach James [Foster] is excellent; arguably one of the best fielding coaches in the world. He rides the boys pretty hard. There is a lot of ground fielding and catching. He makes sure the boys are ready for the game. He ensures they are nice and comfortable under high balls and flat balls,” KKR mentor David Hussey, who is playing an all-round role in the camp, said.

KKR will next take on Mumbai Indians on April 6 in Pune
