Mumbai Indians could release some players with a view to making a strong comeback in 2023.
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a fantastic cricketing experience for fans and players alike. We’ve seen some special performances from individuals throughout the season. There are batters and bowlers who have delivered on a consistent basis. Some famous names had an off-season while there were some surprise performances from relatively new players. The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), however, had a forgettable campaign as they ended at the bottom of the table. They will be having a lot to re-assess before the start of the next season.
MI’s big-money signing Ishan Kishan ended the season as their highest run-scorer despite having an average season. Players like Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav also had an okay season. Among the bowlers, the star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been the pick of the bowlers as scalped 15 wickets. Bumrah found his way to the top after coming into form towards the end of the league campaign. He is followed by Daniel Sams and Murugan Ashwin. These players might be able to continue at the Mumbai side in the next season as well. However, MI could release some players with a view to making a strong comeback in 2023.

Tymal Mills was drafted in by MI at a price of INR 1.50 crores. He had an unimpressive outing with the Mumbai side in IPL 2022. He scalped 6 wicket in 5 matches, but it is his economy rate of 11 that’s mainly causing problems, along with his injuries.
Fabian Allen is a signing that didn’t produce the goods for the MI side. He could only feature in one match in the IPL 2022. The spinner went for runs in the only match he played and this could be a reason for his omission. Allen might have played his last for the MI as he could be released by the management.
Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun is not yet out of his great father’s shadow and it could be something that’s having a bearing on the youngster. After being signed by MI, he couldn’t even play a single match for the. The Mumbai side’s deplorable season is mainly due to the lack of options in the bowling and Arjun wasn’t able to prove himself. Arjun’s future with MI look bleak, the franchise would let him go before the next season.
2017 was the breakthrough season for Unadkat as he took 24 wickets in the season. Things hasn’t been the same ever since. In 2022, he struggled to impress in Mumbai colours as could only take six wickets in eight match at a below-par economy of 9.50.
