Former India captain and wicket keeper-batter MS Dhoni has made his name synonymous to pulling off fine stumpings, run-outs and catches from behind the stumps. One such moment came to the fore again, to prove, that he remains India’s greatest wicket-keeper in the ongoing IPL 2022 contest between CSK and PBKS at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

In the ball of the second over of PBKS innings, top-order batters Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, were involved in a big mix-up. It comes after Rajapaksa welcomed English seamer Chris Jordan with a six.

However, it took no time for CSK, to sent him packing after the fielder Jordan missed out on a direct-hit with Rajapaksa in the midway with too much ground to cover. Dhoni showed his alertness to the situation and made a galloping sprint as cover as he was not close to the stumps and hits the stumps with a diving effort seconds before the batter could make his ground.

MS Dhoni wicket-keeping record in IPL

The former CSK captain has played 223 matches — the most — in the lucrative tournament. He has been involved in 163 dismissals during this time which includes 124 catches and 39 stumpings.

Dhoni, meanwhile, remains no stranger to success. In fact, the success story of the boy from Ranchi, who grew up to be one most successful captains across the format can be seen as a case study for youngsters. He led India to three titles — 2007 ICC World Twenty20, 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy — besides building CSK as one of the most consistent and successful franchises with four IPL titles to their name

And even in the twilight zone of his cricketing career, after having announced his international retirement on India’s 74th Independence Day, Dhoni continues to inspire youngsters and even the greatest of the games like Virat Kohli takes lesson from him.
