In a fresh new controversy away from the cricket field in the IPL 2022, two police constables — Ravindra Mate (33) and Narendra Nagpure (36) — were booked for clicking photos allegedly under influence of alcohol inside the bio-bubble created for players to avoid spread of COVID-19 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, an official was quoted as saying by PTI.

The incident took place during the match between Gujarat Titans and SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday evening when the two police constables were deployed for their services in Nerul area for the IPL 2022 clash.

IPL 2022: What do we know about the police constables?

Mate is assigned with the Navi Mumbai police while Nagpure has been working under the Thane police department. It has been reported that the constables left their place of duty in the stadium and entered the bio-bubble.

The official said that the police personnel entered the bio-bubble under the influence of alcohol and clicked photos, adding they have been booked under section 85 (1) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act (behaving in a disorderly manner under influence of drink) and further probe was underway.

For the uninitiated, the bio-bubble has been specially created to safeguard the players and other authorities involved in the lucrative tournament from the dreaded Covid-19 virus. No other personnel from outside the environment are allowed to enter the biosecure zone.
