Mumbai Indians (MI), who are yet to win a match after four games in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, will be looking for a change in fortunes as they face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the match 23 of the season on April 13 (Wednesday) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. PBKS, led by Mayank Agarwal, won two and lost two in their first four matches of the ongoing season.

As far as MI is concerned, it has been nothing short of a nightmare campaign for them in the IPL 2022 so far. The record five-time IPL champions are yet to have match-winning contributions from their key men. It would take a combined effort to get them back on track. The Mumbai side will be looking for an inspirational performance from Rohit Sharma, something which can motivate the rest of the group. Despite losing four matches in a row, MI batters Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have impressed.

Mumbai’s bowling unit has been largely inconsistent this season and they have to step up their game if MI are to win this match. Jasprit Bumrah, who has terrorized batsmen in the past, is yet to reach his full capabilities. The rest of the bowling attack, comprising Murugan Ashwin, Basil Thampi and Jaydev Unadkat, have looked ordinary as well. They have to contribute to help change the tide in MI’s favour.

PBKS have won alternate matches out of the four they have played so far. The Punjab team lost their last match to Gujarat Titans (GT) in a match that went to the last ball. Liam Livingstone has been Punjab’s most impressive batsman and he will be looking to start from where he left in the match against GT. Shikhar Dhawan has contributed as well and PBKS will be needing contributions from the rest to break the inconsistency patch. Talking about inconsistency PBKS bowlers have been their weakest link this season. They have a good looking bowling lineup led by the likes of Rahul Chahar and Kagiso Rabada. Chahar is PBKS’ leading wicket-taker in IPL 2022. He will be needing support from the rest to give the Punjab franchise the edge against MI.
