The IPL 2022 has already seen some fine athleticism and catches taken in the field. One such eye-catching moment came in the clash between SRH and GT at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and asked Hardik Pandya-led GT to bat. Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade, as usual, opened the batting for the Ahmedabad-franchise.
But the in-form Gill failed to add much to the team’s tally as he was dismissed for seven runs off a delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Rahul Tripathi taking a ‘flying catch’ to send back the batter.
The incident took place in the second delivery of the third over after Gill smashed the ball hard off a wide half volley but the fiercely struck shot was caught by Tripathi who flew to his left to complete the catch.
Gill was, incidentally, the first wicket to fall for GT.

SRH captain Williamson opted to go for the same XI as he chose to bowl, factoring in the dew on the surface. GT skipper Pandya, meanwhile, said that he would also have opted for the same decision.
“We’re going to bowl. There is a potential dew factor, and we’ll look to chase it in the end. We saw improvement in the second match and then in the third, and hopefully we can improve further over here. We have to be adaptable, playing at different grounds and we need to adjust. Same XI,” Williamson said.
“We would have bowled as well because of the dew. We are playing for the first time over here. It’s always good to win, but for us processes are more important. We got the results because we followed our plans. We need to show that we are out there to fight. Tewatia is right up there right now. It shows a lot of courage and character to do the same things day in and day out. Very happy for him and for the team as well. Same team,” Pandya said.
