While Mumbai Indians (MI) are going through a slump in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, pacer Jasprit Bumrah is optimistic that the team will show its quality once the ‘transition phase’ is over.

“It’s a transition phase that every cricketer understands, and every team goes through that. We are in that phase; we have got a new group. So understanding the format of the IPL, how you have to handle pressure and achieve success in this league.”

“We are going through that. We are looking forward that we go through this transition, and then we have all the players we had and the quality will come back again,” he said.

Mumbai went through a reshuffle after the mega auction and the team hasn’t settle down quickly as they would’ve liked. They have lost some key figures in the bowling unit and the newcomers is yet to make a significant impact. This is another reason for their dismal show so far. Bumrah says that the team should show faith in their new talent.

“We have got some new faces in the middle who are learning about their game and will only get better. So, I don’t think we need to panic and make a lot of changes. We just need to be a little patient and back their talent, which we are going to do. That is what I feel the plan going further would be. We have the belief in their talent, that is why they are in the squad, so we give them enough games and we back their talent,” Bumrah added.

Bumrah believes toss is key to MI’s turnaround

The Mumbai pacer stressed that dew factor is playing a key role in Mumbai’s results and would like the team to win some tosses to turn around their fortunes. MI have lost the toss and were asked to bat first three times in the four matches they played.

“”If it was up to me, I would say win the toss. That really helps. But yes, whenever you come into this scenario, there is a little bit of help with the new ball, so maintaining a good line, trying to swing the ball upfront, I think will help you”

“As soon as you come to the later stages, be it the first innings or the second innings, the wicket settles down (due to dew). So then maybe you have to start your death bowling a little early”

“All of these pointers might help the other bowlers as well, so we’re looking to address that as soon as possible and then use it to our advantage,” he added.

MI is no stranger to such situations and have managed to turn it around to clinch the IPL title. They will be hoping to begin another turnaround as they face Punjab Kings on Wednesday.
