IPL 2022 DC vs RR: How did the no-ball controversy unfold

The final over in the contest between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 on Friday turned into a controversy.

Delhi Capitals needed 36 runs off the final over with West Indies hard-hitting batter Rovman Powell on strike to face his national team compatriot and Rajasthan Royals rival Obed McCoy.

Powell made the most of his hard-hitting prowess as he smashed three back-to-back sixes to bring back Delhi Capitals in the game but the third ball saw the chasing side lose its tempo due to some high-intensity drama on the field.

McCoy tried to bowl a fuller length delivery in his third ball but missed out on a yorker as the full toss was dispatched by Powell for a maximum over deep mid-wicket.

However, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, thought that it was waist-high no ball but the decision was ruled against his team’s favour by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan which saw a drama erupt in the dugout.

Pant signalled Powell and the non-striker Kuldeep Yadav to come back to the dug out due to the decision made by the umpires and later sent Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre on the field to have a word with the umpires.
