Originating from Saunamara village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, Amit Rohidas plays the role of the defender for India’s national field hockey team. He began his career in hockey early in his village which led him to join the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela in 2004. His exceptional abilities in hockey fetched him a position in the national junior team in 2009. Rohidas made his senior squad debut at the 2013 Asia Cup in Ipoh, where he played a vital role in earning a silver medal for India. After a short break from the national scene, he achieved a great comeback to the side in 2017.

Rohidas’ biggest achievement in his career arrived at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, where his integral role guided India to a bronze medal victory, marking the nation’s first Olympic medal in hockey in over four decades. His record includes 163 appearances and 27 goals for the national team. Apart from this, the athlete has competed for the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board and Railway Sports Promotion Board. He also represented India in the U21 category. At the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, he was crucial in India’s gold-medal triumph, thus earning a berth for the nation at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
