Hockey India names Anthony Farry, Alan Tan, and Rhett Halkett as analytical coaches

Rhett Halkett assumed the duties of head coach of the Scottish Under-21 men's hockey team and assistant coach for the Scotland men's hockey.

Rhett Halkett and Alan Tan will serve as the team’s analytical coach and scientific advisor, respectively, according to an announcement made by Hockey India on Friday. Anthony Farry, a former head coach of the Japan women’s hockey team, was also appointed by the Indian Hockey Federation as the team’s new analytical coach. After Graham Reid was recently replaced as the head coach of the Indian men’s hockey team by former South African international Craig Fulton, the addition of Rhett Halkett and Alan Tan to the team’s support staff was anticipated.

More about Rhett Halkett

Halkett, a former South African international player, participated in 155 international games between 2010 and 2018. He began serving as an assistant coach for the Netherlands women’s hockey team in 2020. Halkett worked with the Dutch team for a year, supporting them in their competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the FIH Women’s Pro League 2020-21, and the European Championships. Rhett Halkett assumed the duties of head coach of the Scottish Under-21 men’s hockey team and assistant coach for the Scotland men’s hockey team in 2022.

More about Alan Tan

Between January 2011 and September 2021, Alan Tan, who has more than 10 years of experience, served as the NSW Institute of Sport’s strength and conditioning coach. From August 2021 to March 2023, Tan worked for Wheelchair Rugby Australia as the National Development Squad Program Manager.

After serving as a laboratory tutor and unit assessor marker for the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science program at the University of Technology Sydney from September 2021 to March 2023, Tan assumed the position of senior strength and conditioning coach for Tennis Australia at the Sydney Training Centre from November 2022 to March 2023.

More about Anthony Farry

Between December 2008 and November 2011, Anthony Farry served as the assistant coach for Hockey ACT and Hockey Australia for three years. Between August 2011 and February 2017, he was the head coach and director of high performance for the men’s hockey team of Canada. During this time, he gained notoriety.

Through the World League qualification process, Canada was able to successfully qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The nation made its Olympic hockey debut in that competition. Farry also assisted the Canadian Under-21 men’s hockey team in advancing to two successive junior hockey World Cups.

Between February 2017 and August 2020, Farry was the Japanese women’s hockey team’s head coach and high-performance director. The Asian Games 2018 saw Japan win its first gold medal under his leadership. From August 2020 to April 2022, Farry served as the high-performance director and head coach of the USA women’s hockey team.
