The Official World Golf Rankings recently stated that a new golf series will receive points that will be added to golfers’ rankings.  Last year, the Gira de Golf Profesional de Mexicana, a circuit launched in 2017, requested for inclusion in the world rankings. The OWGR confirmed that the tour will get world ranking points after a 16-month application procedure. Gira de Golf is a 54-hole tournament with a no-cut qualifying round that is open to the public. During the epidemic, the competition garnered headlines by staging an event in partnership with the PGA Tour Latinoamerica. It was praised for taking extraordinary steps to provide golfers with alternate routes during the lockdown.

The LIV Golf Series had requested for global ranking points in July 2022, and are still awaiting a response. LIV Golf has often been in the news since it first began. The PGA Tour banned players who collaborated with LIV, which caused controversy surrounding the newly established series. The PGA also charged LIV of luring and snatching its finest players through an unquestionable sum. Due to its strategic partnership with the MENA Tour, LIV Golf’s initial application for OWGR points was rejected. The “Giga de Golf” format, however, followed the OWGR guidelines. As a result of which, they were awarded the points.
