It has not been easy for Antony at Manchester United since his big-money arrival from Ajax two summers ago. The Brazilian has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled to maintain that consistency over a long period of time. While he has scored some important goals for the club in these two years, the 24-year-old has not yet been able to fulfill his potential. This season – in particular – has been a massive struggle for the winger.

Antony, who predominantly starts on the right flank, has not been able to build on the promises from the last campaign and experienced a below-par first half of this season. This led to him losing his place to young talent Alejandro Garnacho. However, the Brazilian has been able to show glimpses of his potential in recent weeks once again. Most notably, he scored the late equaliser against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final which sent the game to extra-time where Manchester United dramatically won the contest 4-3.

I’m really happy with my form: Antony

Besides, Antony produced a top-notch performance in the 4-3 defeat away to Chelsea in the Premier League. Ahead of United’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, Antony spoke about his current form. “I’m really happy with my form, I’ve worked very hard every day towards this. I’ve been working hard in training for months now, so I’m very pleased with my performances and I hope to improve with every game. I know that there is a lot that can be improved and I’ve worked on this. I’m happy seeing my performances improve game by game,” he told MUTV.

Antony produced a stunning long pass to help Garnacho score against Chelsea. Referring to it, the Brazilian said, “You can certainly expect a lot of these moments. As I said, my confidence is back through hard work. This despite having gone through a lot, I’ve been through some very difficult moments. Today, I’m turning things around and have been for quite a while now. Importantly, I continue working regardless of the situation. I was delighted with the assist for Garnacho and you can definitely expect a lot of good things ahead.”

United lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City last season – something which they can make it right this time around. They have a chance to reach a second straight final when they take on Coventry City in the semi-final at Wembley. “Playing in a semi-final in such a historic stadium is really important. Even though they are in the Championship, we have to respect them as they didn’t reach an FA Cup semi-final by chance,” he explained.

The winger added: “I’m looking forward to the game and how good it will be, we’ll study the opposition to be prepared to meet our objective. We know how important the FA Cup is, and it’s really important for us and the fans to win this trophy. We’re really grateful to the fans for their support at every game, they’re always behind us. We owe this trophy to them, because they support us every day.”
