Arsenal’s impressive 2024 continued, with the North London club producing another top-notch performance to convincingly overcome Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. The Gunners are in fine form since the turn of the year and were labeled as favourites heading into this difficult fixture on Saturday. It goes without saying that it is never easy to play in Brighton’s home. They have been a revelation in recent years and have made life extremely difficult for all the teams, home or away.

Hence, supporters anticipated a tightly fought contest between the two sides in the Premier League on Saturday. However, Arsenal took their recent good form into that fixture and produced a sublime performance from start to finish. Even though Brighton & Hove Albion had the majority of possession, the chances largely fell to the visitors. After taking the lead through a Bukayo Saka penalty in the first half, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard scored in the second period to round up a comfortable 3-0 win.

After struggling to settle in at the start of the season, Havertz has become a key component of Arsenal’s setup lately. Having joined from Chelsea last summer, the German attacker initially struggled to find a fixed position in the starting line-up. He was constantly moved around in the Starting XI, with supporters and pundits frequently debating over his best position in the team. On Saturday though he played up front as a striker and starred for the Gunners. He even got the crucial second goal of the match.

Is centre-forward the best position for Kai Havertz?

After the action-packed Premier League contest, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked whether Havertz’s best position is centre-forward in the line-up. “A lot of the time players decide where they have to play, and we can have certain ideas, but then you see certain relationships and some things flow. And when it flows, you have to let it go, and I think Kai at the moment is flowing and he’s feeling really comfortable there, the rest of the team is comfortable with him there and things happen naturally,” Arteta, quoted on Arsenal.com, said in his post-match press conference.

Questioned whether the German is a different player now compared to the beginning of the campaign, Arteta replied, “Yeah, obviously, he’s in a different moment. He’s got some fantastic players around him. We have tried to create the right environment for him which I think is very important for any player. We have given him confidence, I think hopefully we’ve given the love that he needs. And after, he has the appreciation from the rest of the players and the staff at the club and now, our supporters for sure.”

The manager went on to further heap praise on the German’s performance but also urged him to maintain this level. “He’s certainly having a huge impact on the team, I think his overall performances have been really good and now his numbers in terms of goal contributions, are really, really high. He needs to maintain that level, I think the understanding between the attacking players today was superb – I think they had real purpose and connection, and a lot of clarity to attack against them, and we created many chances,” he elaborated.
