Hyderabad FC boss Manuel Marquez wasn’t happy with his team’s performance after their 1-1 draw against SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League (ISL) fixture at GMC Athletic stadium on Thursday. The Nizams have now extended their unbeaten run to six games, but East Bengal are still winless in eight games. Amir Dervisevic put the Red and Gold Brigade in front before Hyderabad FC equalized through Bartholomew Ogbeche. Meanwhile the draw helped Hyderabad to second in the points table with 12 points, three behind Mumbai City FC.

HFC’s greatest strength has been their full-back’s Ashish Rai and Akash Mishra, however, the right-back Ashish didn’t play against East Bengal due to injury and is likely to miss more games. Meanwhile central defender Juan Gonzalez was also absent with a knee problem.

Joao Victor was pushed back to the central defence to replace Juan.  As Victor was pushed back there was no one to do the defensive midfielder’s job and that restricted midfielders Edu Garcia and Hitesh Sharma from playing their natural game as they had to do the additional job of providing cover to the back line.

Marquez said after the match “ Ashish received a strong tackle and we’ll be out for more than one game and the other guy has problems with his knee that’s Juan González. Then we try to play with another player’s Joao Victor, he has played lot of games as a center-back not only in Hyderabad but in a lot of other clubs. But when you don’t win and you play a bad game like today, you always remember the players who are not in the lineup.”

When you don’t play well, at least one point is good: Marquez

Hyderabad have been impressive this season, so far as they have won three games, that includes a 5-1 thrashing of NorthEast United FC and a 3-1 win against defending champions Mumbai City FC.

The Spanish tactician added “I think that we didn’t deserve more than one point, but  I’m not satisfied, during the championship there will be games like these. When you don’t play well, at least one point is good. But of course, we lost a good chance of adding one more win.”

When asked about the positives that can be taken from the game, the 53-year-old said “ I think the team was very bad, even from the bench we didn’t have the team with the substitutions. If I have to say something, maybe the performance of Sahil Tavora in the second half was very good. But I think that in terms of football we didn’t play a good game and when you don’t play your style of football, this kind of thing always happens.”
