Ipswich Town will be bidding to move to the summit of the EFL Championship standings at least for the time being when they travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford on Tuesday. The Hornets, meanwhile, are sitting at the tenth position, with 28 points to their name from 20 second tier games, just two shy of the top six. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Southampton at the weekend, while the Tractor Boys got the better of Middlesbrough 2-0 last time out.

Watford have lost only one of their last ten outings, and that lone defeat came against leaders Leicester on November 25. After that, the Hornets secured back-to-back wins over Norwich City and Hull City before sharing the spoils away to Southampton. Valerin Ismael’s side secured their seventh league win of the season against the Tigers at MKM Stadium on December 2 thanks to Edo Kayembe’s opener inside the opening eight minutes and Wesley Hoedt’s 72nd-minute winner. A week later, Watford earned a dramatic draw against the Saints thanks to Rhys Healey’s equaliser six minutes into the injury time. Meanwhile, the result extend their winless run at home to five games, recording three wins in the process.

Ipswich, on the other hand, secured their 15th league win of the campaign away to Middlesbrough on Saturday thanks to two unanswered goals from Conor Chaplin and Omari Hutchinson. It was the Tractor Boys’ fourth win from last five outings, while their lone defeat in the period came against West Bromwich Albion last month. Kieran McKenna’s side have been playing an entertaining brand of football, having scored an impressive 43 goals from 20 second tier games so far in the 2023-24 season, they have managed to find the back of the net two or more times in nine of their last 11 league fixtures. The East Anglian outfit are currently heading into automatic qualification as they lie second in the Championship standings, seven points clear of third-placed Leeds United.
