Queens Park Rangers conclude their week long training camp in Austria with a clash against Austrian third tier side Vorwarts Steyr at LIWEST Arena on Saturday afternoon. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats, with the English outfit losing 3-0 to Slavia Prague last Saturday, while the hosts were beaten 2-1 by Amstetten on June 30. QPR will be looking to build their fitness following seven days abroad, while Vorwarts are preparing for the 2023-24 Austrian Regional League following relegation from the Erste Liga last term.

Vorwarts’s five-year stay in the second tier came to an abrupt end following a 14th-place finish in the Erste Liga standings last season. Steyr needed a result from their final league-match against Flyeralarm Admira, but suffered a humiliating 3-0 thrashing at BSFZ-Arena, and thereby finished with 32 points to their name from 20 games, just two points adrift of safe zone. Nevertheless, Daniel Madelener’s side have already started their pre-season, losing out to fellow Austrian side Amstetten almost two weeks ago despite taking the lead through Paul Staudinger’s ninth minute effort.
QPR, on the other hand, were thrashed by Slavia Prague last time courtesy of goals from Lukas Provod, Oscar Dorley and Mick van Buren. The Championship outfit will not be disheartened by their loss to a club who played in the Europa Conference League last term. The R’s didn’t have a great season last time around, taking 50 points from 46 games, just six points clear of the relegation zone. Collecting nine points from their final four second tier games combined with point deduction to couple of teams that finished behind them in the table, helped Super Hoops to maintain their status as a Championship club. Nevertheless, The Hoops will be aiming to distance themselves from any sort of relegation dog fight in the 2023-24 Championship, in their first full season under the stewardship of Gareth Ainsworth.
